9-Day-Fortnight Holiday Entitlement Calculator

Based on the default pattern below, a typical entitlement is 25.2 days. Adjust the inputs for your exact figure.

4.5 days

25.2 days

(4.5 days ÷ 5 full-time days) × 28 days = 25.2 days

Audit note

UK rounding rule: employers may round holiday up to the nearest half or full day, never down. Statutory leave is capped at 28 days for anyone working five or more days a week.

How this calculation works

Rotating rosters, compressed weeks and fortnight patterns don't map neatly onto a Monday-to-Friday week. These calculators average your real days worked across the cycle before applying the 5.6-week multiplier.

(4.5 days ÷ 5 full-time days) × 28 days = 25.2 days

Frequently asked questions

How much holiday on a 9-day fortnight?
Nine days over two weeks averages 4.5 days a week, so your entitlement is 25.2 days a year on the statutory minimum (4.5 × 5.6). It's the same as any 4.5-day week.
Am I part-time on a 9-day fortnight?
It depends. If you compress full-time hours into nine longer days you're still full-time and keep the full entitlement in hours. If your hours are genuinely reduced, you're part-time and pro-rated.
How is my non-working day handled?
Your regular day off each fortnight isn't holiday — it's simply a non-working day. You only draw on your leave balance for days you would otherwise have worked.
