Compressed & shift patterns

Rotating rosters, compressed weeks and fortnight patterns don't map neatly onto a Monday-to-Friday week. These calculators average your real days worked across the cycle before applying the 5.6-week multiplier.

How this calculation works

Rotating and compressed patterns rarely align with a calendar week, so entitlement is based on the average days (or hours) worked across the full cycle, then multiplied by 5.6 weeks and capped at 28 days. A 4-on-4-off or 3-on-3-off rota, for example, averages 3.5 days a week — half the cycle — and earns 19.6 days.

For long shifts such as 12-hour rotations, tracking leave in hours is more accurate than counting days. And a compressed full-timer who packs full weekly hours into fewer, longer days keeps the full entitlement — it's simply measured in hours, so each day off costs what it's genuinely worth rather than a fifth of the week.
