How this calculation works

Joining or leaving part-way through the leave year pro-rates entitlement to the portion of the year you're employed — multiply the full annual allowance by the fraction of the year worked. In the first year of employment, statute lets employers round accrued leave up to the nearest half or full day in the worker's favour.

On leaving, any accrued-but-untaken statutory holiday must be paid in lieu. The reverse only works one way: leave taken beyond what was accrued can be recovered from a final salary payment solely where the contract expressly allows it, so check the wording before assuming a clawback applies.
