Paternity Leave Entitlement Calculator

Based on the default pattern below, a typical balance is 1 week. Adjust the inputs for your exact figure.

1 week

2 weeks total − 1 weeks taken = 1 weeks remaining

Audit note

This is your statutory LEAVE balance only, never pay. None of these entitlements are pro-rated by hours or days worked, and eligibility for the leave itself is a day-one right regardless of length of service — pay may still depend on continuous service.

Stop tracking this by hand

Statutory leave dates and balances are easy to miscalculate by hand. Tempry tracks every type of leave against the right statutory rules automatically, so notice deadlines and remaining balances are never worked out on a calendar again.

How this calculation works

Maternity, paternity, shared parental, adoption and parental bereavement leave are all day-one rights in the UK — see how many weeks apply to each, and how much is left once some has already been taken.

2 weeks total − 1 weeks taken = 1 weeks remaining

Frequently asked questions

How many weeks of paternity leave can I take?
2 weeks in total, which can be taken as a single block or as 2 non-consecutive weeks, any time within the first year after the birth or adoption placement.
Do I need a minimum length of service to take paternity leave?
No — since 6 April 2026, paternity leave is a day-one right. Paternity pay can still depend on continuous service, but the leave itself doesn't.
Can I take my 2 weeks separately?
Yes — since April 2024, the 2 weeks can be taken as two separate blocks rather than only as one consecutive fortnight.
