Audit note

Rolled-up holiday pay for irregular-hours and part-year workers is lawful again from April 2024, but the 12.07% uplift must be itemised separately on the payslip — not absorbed into the basic rate.

How this calculation works

Zero-hours, irregular and annualised contracts accrue holiday as you work it. Since April 2024 the standard method is 12.07% of hours worked — enter the hours in a period to see the leave earned.

1600 hours worked × 12.07% = 193.12 hours holiday

Frequently asked questions

How does holiday work on annualised hours?
If your annualised total is fixed, holiday is often already built into the contracted hours. Where hours are variable, accruing 12.07% of hours worked reproduces the 5.6-week entitlement — 1,600 hours earns about 193 hours of leave.
Is annualised hours the same as irregular hours?
Not quite. Annualised hours agree a yearly total up front, spread unevenly across the year. If the pattern is genuinely variable, the 12.07% method applies; if it's a fixed weekly average, pro-rating by hours may fit better.
How do I check my holiday is right?
Multiply the hours you've worked by 12.07%. If your leave allowance is materially below that, ask your employer to confirm how your entitlement was calculated.
