Audit note

Rolled-up holiday pay for irregular-hours and part-year workers is lawful again from April 2024, but the 12.07% uplift must be itemised separately on the payslip — not absorbed into the basic rate.

How this calculation works

Zero-hours, irregular and annualised contracts accrue holiday as you work it. Since April 2024 the standard method is 12.07% of hours worked — enter the hours in a period to see the leave earned.

120 hours worked × 12.07% = 14.48 hours holiday

Frequently asked questions

How much holiday do irregular-hours workers get?
You accrue 12.07% of the hours you actually work each pay period. There's no fixed weekly figure because your hours vary — the percentage keeps the total equivalent to 5.6 weeks a year.
What counts as an irregular-hours worker?
Under the 2024 rules, it's someone whose paid hours in each pay period are wholly or mostly variable. That includes many casual, bank and as-needed roles.
How is the holiday paid?
Either as rolled-up pay — a visible 12.07% uplift each payslip — or accrued into a balance you draw on when you take leave. Your employer chooses one method and should apply it consistently.
